…and welcome to the West Midland Bird Club Stafford Branch pages,
Ours is a Club which is both friendly and informative and one which will help you really get to grips with your interest, be you a new birder or one with years of expertise. The Stafford Branch meet regularly throughout the year, concentrating on indoor meetings in the Winter months and with field trips mainly in the Spring or Summer. All meetings are aimed at providing you with opportunities to learn a little more about birds and birdwatching. Our indoor meetings are held in Stafford and take place on the first Tuesday of each month from October to March inclusive. If you have the time do come along, there is always something new to learn and folk to meet, and please do introduce yourself if you're there.
One of the Club's main strengths is its research into the birds of our region, and the Stafford Branch has always been very much involved in this field: we regularly conduct surveys of the county's bird life, with projects such as a regular Cannock Chase survey, and with the current focus on biodiversity, we are ‘Lead Organisation’ for five of the Staffs Biodiversity Action Plan species. As a member you can become directly involved with these surveys, or if your interest enables you to focus on a particular bird species or area, again please let us know about your work, perhaps we know someone who could help. One final point about your bird observations in Staffordshire — one of the Club's most important functions is to collect and record information on the birds of our region, so the person to send your records to is the Staffordshire County Recorder. All records are collected together becoming a hugely valuable resource for conservation (where knowledge is vital), and the most notable are published in the Annual Report which, as a member, you will receive free.
Finally, if you do have any ideas or suggestions about what you want to see the Branch providing for you please do let us know. We would be very interested to hear your views as once we know what your needs are we can then try to help.
If you do need to find out a little more about the Stafford Branch please do not hesitate to contact me — if we can help we will!
