Have you visited Cannock Chase recently? If so you have probably seen that the Club (through the Stafford Branch) has been actively sponsoring the bird feed at the feeding station run by the County Rangers at the Marquis Drive Visitor Centre
(Grid Ref: SK004153
).
Plenty of birds are drawn to the site, expecially over winter, and it's now probably the best site to see Brambling in the county during the early months of the year.
With seed-eating birds being a group that has been affected by our agricultural efficiency in the last couple of decades (less grain spillage means less available food) feeding stations such as that at Cannock Chase are becoming really valuable in helping to sustain our birds through the winter and to keep them in good condition for breeding attempts in the Spring.
Watch this space for more information and keeping watching the station for the birds! Thanks are due to the Rangers and to the County Council, and to Bevan Craddock, who has organised this for us.
