West Midland Bird Club
We're trying to keep this simple, so...
Follow these steps:
- Choose a site that you visit regularly. This might be a regular birdwatching 'patch', or somewhere you visit in your dinnerhour, or even a regular dog-walking route. The important thing is that it is MANAGEABLE FOR YOU. Information from any site is valuable even if no birds are present, but you'll probably choose a site where you know there are Lapwing - this will lead to some bias, but we'll be able to measure change over time... which is what we want. If you know of more than one site, please survey this too and any others you feel that you can manage.
- Clearly identify your site (a grid reference would be ideal) and draw a sketch map on a blank A4 sheet. Don't spend much time on this but we MUST to be able to identify the area covered again if someone else revisits it, or to check whether we have other reports from the same area.
- Describe the habitat on the site - this is important, but don't get bogged down in it (joke). If you are able to supply this information then put this on the map and add a few general comments.
- Estimate how many pairs of birds you believe were breeding on the site - the method of counting these is quite straightforward.
- Let us know your name and contact details, so that we can follow up if necessary to check on of the reports or perhaps to ask for the same help in subsequent years.
Send your survey data to Andy Lawrence.
