SBAP Birds - Lapwing

What a fantastic bird! They have for so long been one of the species that birders, no, not just birders but everybody visiting or living in our county really loves! Sadly, on the decline now with a very severe loss in numbers nationwide. Every one is of them is precious and we do need to know the areas throughout the county in which they still breed. The upland birds of Staffs have been well studied with declines of up to 70% since the early 1980's demonstrated, and the valley Lapwings have also been reported on by the WMBC in 1998 with a similar decline again shown. The remainder of the county, particularly the agricultural land, is still something of an unknown quantity and if you can help supply further information that would be of enormous value!

We have developed a slightly more intensive approach to counting these birds as they are still not very rare and you probably have some breeding not far from you. So, there are two ways in which everybody can help with this survey: If you only have very little time available please simply:

Here is some advice on how to survey for Lapwings.

The Lapwing Coordinator is: Andy Lawrence.

The results so far.
