West Midland Bird Club

Research

The West Midland Bird Club carries out a number of research projects, both in its own right and in collaboration with, or as an agent for, other conservation organisations.

We rely heavily on volunteers, not only to carry out field work for local and national surveys, but also to analyse the data and present results.

As well as compiling records of bird sightings for our Annual Report, specific activities overseen by the Club's Research, Reserves and Records Committee include:

• the Birmingham & The Black Country Breeding Bird Survey.
• the Staffordshire Biodiversity Action Plan (SBAP) Bird Surveys.

We also participate in:

• the work of the Birmingham & The Black Country Black Redstart Research Group.
• The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust's Wetland Bird Survey, at our Ladywalk Reserve.
• The work of the Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory, in Wales.

We encourage all our members to participate in the BTO's Garden BirdWatch *, a simple weekly count of garden visitors, accessible to novices and experienced birders alike.
