For each county in the UK, there is a "County Bird Recorder". That person, an unpaid volunteer, collates reports of bird sightings, be they rarities, breeding birds or simply regular counts from one location. These reports are used to compile the Annual Bird Report and maintain the County Lists.
County Recorders are also conduits for passing such records to other bird recording bodies, such as the British Birds Rarities Committee, Rare Breeding Birds Panel, etc.
Recorders usually appreciate written records in accordance with our guidelines, but please feel free to contact your local recorder for further advice on how to submit details of your sightings. When writing by post, please include an SAE.
Please bear in mind that recorders (like everyone working for the Club) are volunteers, and deal with your correspondence in batches, so non-urgent matters may not receive a reply for a week or two, or longer at busy and holiday periods.
Please make sure to check precisely which county you — and the birds you see — are in!
