- 16th: The unprecedented flash floods of June 2007 had a disastrous effect on some parts of Ladywalk. The Reserve is situated in a large meander of the River Tame just below the confluence with the River Blythe and is always prone to flooding in Winter. But the inches of rain that fell on Birmingham turned into several feet of raging water surging across the reserve on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 June. The "Riverwalk" footpath was under 6 feet of water, Hide "B" was swamped, even the entry gate was completely submerged! Consequently, any birds nesting on the ground, in the reedbeds or low shrubs and herbaceous vegetation lost their nests, eggs or young. To make matters worse, much of the undergrowth, and therefore breeding sites for birds and insects, were completely obliterated. In addition, as the floods receded a huge quantity of litter (including, ironically, a large dustbin!) and silt was deposited around the reserve and several trees were uprooted by the scouring floodwater and needed to be cleared from the footpaths. Thankfully, the neighbouring farmer retrieved the cattle that had been washed across the river onto the Reserve!
