British Firsts

It is said that every birder's dream to find a "first" — a bird never before recorded in this country. This has happend, just three times, in our region:

The first British record of a Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) was from Tenbury, Worcestershire in 1848, but, like all subsequent occurrences of this North-American and Cuban species, the bird was almost certainly an escapee.
