West Midland Bird Club

Birding Events, in the West Midland Region, in June 2009

Anyone is welcome at the Club's indoor meetings. There is small charge for admission, with a discount for members of the Club. Members are also welcome to participate in the field trip activities of any branch.

This page also lists events not organised by the Club. Many links are to other organisations' websites (e.g. local RSPB groups) and the Club accepts no responsibility for their content. Meet at Gradbach car park hidden down the small side road. The Gradbach start gives us plenty of opportunities to choose from: a moorland stroll for Red Grouse, Curlew etc, or the River Dane valley for riparian birds.

In search of rare British breeding birds we start at Weeting Heath hoping for Stone Curlew and possibly Woodlark. In the afternoon we search Lakenheath RSPB for Golden Oriole in the poplar plantations and possibly Common Crane and Bittern in the extended reedbeds.
Cost £18.00 which includes reserve entrance fee.

The work of the Rangers Service will be explained. The park is currently aiming to achieve and and the Friends' main aims are to protect the interests of the Country park for all to use and preserve its wildlife and character. Membership is free and open to anyone who has an interest in the Country Park.

Our annual pilgrimage to find a local speciality: Nightjars! We will certainly finish in the dark, and so a torch might be useful. Walking: possibly 1–2 miles over loose surface paths. Meet at the Springslade Café car park, off Camp Road.
