West Midland Bird Club

Birding Events, in the West Midland Region, in June 2008

Anyone is welcome at the Club's indoor meetings. There is small charge for admission, with a discount for members of the Club. Members are also welcome to participate in the field trip activities of any branch.

This page also lists events not organised by the Club. Many links are to other organisations' websites (e.g. local RSPB groups) and the Club accepts no responsibility for their content. The spectacular cliffs at Bempton offer close views of nesting seabirds — Gannet, Guillemot, Puffin and Razorbill! A seawatch from Flamborough should produce more seabirds, and a search of the wooded valley may find a rarity.

Saturday 7 June 2008 Parking restrictions Blithfield Reservoir South Staffordshire Water will be hosting a special event at the Education Centre, Blithfield. Parking there will be at an alternative site.

WMBC Stafford Branch field trip Gradbach

Meet at Gradbach car park hidden down the small side road. The Gradbach start gives us plenty of opportunities to choose from: a moorland stroll for Red Grouse, Curlew etc, or the River Dane valley for riparian birds.

WMBC Kidderminster Branch field trip RSPB Coombes Valley *. (SK009534 *) A full day visit to RSPB Coombes Valley where we hope to see summer migrants along with resident birds. Then on to the Knotbury Area some seven miles away to see upland bird species. We meet at the RSPB car park at 10 a.m. and return at about 6 p.m. Journey time approx. 90 minutes.

Our annual pilgrimage to find a local speciality: Nightjars! We will certainly finish in the dark, and so a torch might be useful. Walking: possibly 1–2 miles over loose surface paths. Meet at the Springslade Café car park, off Camp Road.

WMBC Harborne Reserve Open Day Harborne Reserve

All welcome!

Access from the main gate between 29–31 Pereira Road, Harborne.

At the same time the gardens of numbers 10, 14 ,50 and 55 Pereira Road will be open to the public under the National Garden Scheme.

Admission to the reserve will be free. (Combined entry charge for the gardens is £3, children free.) Home made teas will be on sale at no. 10.
