The following review appeared in the RSPB's Bird Notes Magazine, May–June 1964.

Birds Of Staffordshire. By J. Lord and A. R. M. Blake. The West Midland Bird Club, 1962. 39 pages; 3 maps. n.p.

This publication is virtually a check list of Staffordshire birds, based mainly on the reports of the West Midland Bird Club 1938–1961, plus section on the relief and geology of the county.

The classified list gives the status and a brief summary of the more noteworthy records of each species. One or two slight errors mar the otherwise accurate list: e.g. a number of the Galley herons nest in willows.

Although some geological knowledge of a region is desirable, I feel that too much emphasis has been laid upon this for a book of this nature. A section on local habitats would have been of greater interest to the average bird-watcher.
