Warwickshire Wildlife: Launch of The New Birds of the West Midlands

The following article appeared in Warwickshire Wildlife (the magazine of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust *), issue 120, Summer 2005.

Birds of the West Midlands

The annual Birdwatcher's Summer Fair at Brandon Marsh saw some 1,500 people from all over the UK descending on the reserve the weekend of 4th and 5th June. Not just for bird watchers, the weekend offered chances to go pond dipping and to watch dragonflies. Highlights of the weekend included a Digiscoping workshop and the lucky people who saw not one but two kingfishers close up, thanks to Dave Stone and the Brandon Marsh ringing group, came back full of excitement.

The big story: the long-awaited book “New Birds of the West Midlands” by Graham & Janet Harrison was launched at the fair, and copies are available from the West Midlands Bird Club at £39.00 plus £4.00 for P&P [1].
